Rapids RatingClass 1-Class 5 Whitewater Rafting and Inflatable Kayaking TripsNot all Rivers are like "Deliverance" or "The River Wild" but it sure is fun to entertain the thought. In the Real World rapids are rated on a scale from 1-6 with Class 5 being the highest commercially run. Here is our description of the river ratings. ![]() The Lower Klamath has lots of Class 1 calm sections between larger rapids. Class 1:A Nice FloatYou probably won't get wet unless you jump in for a swim. Gentle, calm, moving water, with no maneuvering required. Class 2:You may get splashedFun for families with young children. Easy rapids with smaller waves with very little maneuvering. ![]() The Rogue River Nugget rapid is a Class 3+. Class 3:You will get wet!Series of irregular waves that require skill to maneuver to avoid obstacles such as rocks or hydraulics. This is recreational rafting Class 4:Big Fun and Adrenaline.Larger waves, more precise manuevering required to avoid obstacles which are "must make moves", chance of swimming out of raft.![]() Cascade rapid on the California Salmon River is a Class 5 rapid. Class 5:Whitewater Rafting Extreme! The Cal Salmon River and The Scott River. The most difficult commercially run. Chances of capsizing and/or swimming high. Technical, long, and violent rapids. Scouting neccesary. Swim test may be required. Rafting experience required. *When a + sign follows the number of the river rafting (Class 4+) this means that this section of river rates at the upper end of the class of rapid (Class 4). This means that rapid is more difficult than just a regular Class 4 rapid and is close to being a Class 5 rapid. Safety FirstAt Kokopelli River Guides we only run trips rated up to Class 5. We err on the side of safety and will not take people on a river trip if they do not meet the minimum age requirement or if they do not pass the required swim test on Class 5 rafting trips. Your safety is our number one priority. |
